Origins of Islam
Prophet Muhammad, born around 570 CE in Mecca, received his first revelation from the angel Gabriel at age 40. Recognised as the final prophet in a line that includes Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, his teachings of monotheism and social justice formed the foundation of Islam and the Quran. The Quran, regarded as the only unaltered religious text, is memorised and recited in its original Arabic form, which is considered sacred and must never be altered or disrespected.
Practice of Faith
Muslims follow five core pillars of faith:
Tawheed: Belief in one God, Allah, with no partners or sons.
Salah: Praying five times daily facing Mecca.
Zakat: Giving to charity.
Sawm: Fasting during Ramadan.
Hajj: Pilgrimage to Mecca.
Islamic leaders, known as Sheikhs or Imams, guide congregations in mosques and Islamic centers, and all prayers are directed toward Mecca.
The Paradise of Zahra will continue to grow as an important part of Forest Lawn Memorial Parks, where the Islamic community may gather.
